Can I access the MariaDB / MYSQL database remotely?

This is not such a common request but on occasion we get asked by customers whether they can access their SQL database remotely.

The answer is that “it depends”. In some circumstances we can open up database access but this is only in special circumstances where its justified. In 99.99% of cases, if you need to access WordPress remotely this should be done via the REST API

If you do want remote access to your database please log a support ticket a provide details on why you need database access. If access is granted we will lockdown access via IP address so you’ll need a static IP to access the database from.

Note that running a local instance of Wordpress or some local hybrid environment where the database is being accessed remotely is not a valid use case and will be denied.
